First Time Visitors

Absolutely. We'll talk you through everything before your first session, assess your skin type, explain how everything works and recommend an appropriate session length. We never expect you to know what to do.

Of course. Whether you message us beforehand or ask when you arrive, we're always happy to help.

Sunbed use is strictly for customers aged 18 and over. Photo ID (passport or driving licence) is required on your first visit.

No. Simply walk in whenever it suits you. We do not take bookings.

Q-TAN has salons in and , Bishop Auckland.

The sunbeds don't fully close and you can open the canopy at any point. If you'd prefer not to have the canopy above you at all, use one of our vertical sunbeds — no canopy, no worries.

No. People often wear their underwear on the sunbed, but you should wear whatever feels comfortable. Eye protection is non-negotiable — and we provide this for free.

All our laydown sunbeds are air-conditioned, which you control at the touch of a button.

Our ultra premium laydowns allow UV intensity to be adjusted to suit your skin type and comfort level. We advise that sessions should be spaced with a minimum of 24 hours between them to ensure responsible, effective tanning.

Your Session

Your skin sets the time, not guesswork. Our team will guide you on a suitable session length based on your skin type and experience level.

Our team will advise you based on your skin type, tanning goals and recent UV exposure. More isn't always better.

A minimum of 24 hours must be left between tanning sessions, in line with guidance from The Sunbed Association.

If you've spent time tanning outdoors, we recommend allowing at least 24 hours before using a sunbed. This helps avoid unnecessary UV exposure.

Our Sunbeds

Ultra premium laydowns are the most advanced tanning technology on the market. At Q-TAN we use industry-leading equipment including , , , and — sunbeds you'll only find in specialist salons.

Features include adjustable UV output for both the facial tanners and the body tanners — each operating independently of the other — air conditioning, aroma, and Bluetooth connection for music. All designed to let you tailor your session to your skin type and personal preferences.

Ultra premium laydowns are the most advanced tanning technology on the market and come with features like adjustable UV output, air conditioning, aroma and Bluetooth for music. On an ultra premium laydown you can adjust UV intensity for both the facial tanners and the body tanners, and they operate completely independently of each other — giving you full control over your session.

Standard laydowns do have air conditioning, but they don't offer the same range of features — UV intensity can only be adjusted for the facial tanners, not the body, and the two don't operate independently. There's also no Bluetooth or aroma, so you can't tailor your session in the same way as you can on an ultra premium laydown.

Laydown sunbeds have a canopy that lowers over you so you tan lying down — the canopy doesn't fully close and you can open it at any time. Vertical sunbeds have no canopy — you tan standing up inside a booth that closes fully around you, though you can step out at any time.

Vertical sunbeds can be a good option if you'd rather not have anything above you. If you're a new customer with us and you've previously only used vertical sunbeds, continuing to use them might feel like the natural choice — but tanning technology has changed significantly, and it's well worth trying an ultra premium laydown.

Yes. Our team will talk you through the options available at your salon and recommend the best sunbed for your skin type and tanning goals. You're always welcome to ask.

Yes. All of our sunbeds are 0.3 compliant in line with current UK regulations. The 0.3 standard limits UV output to ensure sunbeds operate safely and responsibly — it's a legal requirement for all commercial sunbed salons in the UK.

Safety & Hygiene

Yes. Eye protection should always be worn during every session. Complimentary Wink-Ease are provided with every visit and goggles are also available if you prefer.

Your eyelids do not provide adequate protection from UV exposure, so proper eye protection should always be worn during every tanning session.

Yes. Every cabin and sunbed is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised after every customer to maintain the highest standards of hygiene.

Yes. Our team are dedicated tanning specialists who receive ongoing training to ensure every customer receives accurate advice and a professional experience.

Yes. Both salons are proud members of The Sunbed Association, reflecting our commitment to maintaining high standards and industry best practice.

The Sunbed Association is the UK's official trade body for the sunbed industry. Member salons agree to operate to a strict code of practice, covering health and safety standards, responsible tanning advice, equipment maintenance and staff training.

Being a member means you can trust that Q-TAN operates professionally and responsibly. Both our Crook salon and our Parkhead salon are fully accredited member salons, so wherever you visit, you can be confident you're in safe, qualified hands.

Tanning Lotions

While not essential, indoor tanning lotions help keep skin hydrated and are designed specifically for use on sunbeds. Healthy, hydrated skin generally tans more effectively.

Only lotions designed specifically for indoor tanning should be used. If you're unsure which lotion is right for you, our team will be happy to help.

If you bring a lotion unsuitable for use on a sunbed, you will be requested to leave it at the salon reception. If you do not want to do this, we will not be able to proceed with your session and your session will be refunded to you.

Indoor tanning lotions are formulated specifically for sunbed use and are different from everyday body moisturisers.

You don't need to buy minutes online before your first visit — minutes can also be purchased in the salon on the day.

No. Unlimited packages cannot be paused for any reason. They run for 28 consecutive days from the date of purchase, regardless of whether you use them every day.

Unlimited packages run for 28 consecutive days from the date of purchase. You can use the sunbed for up to 20 minutes per day. Strictly a minimum of 24 hours must be left between sessions.

Both the 60 minute and 100 minute packages are valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.

No. Packages are personal to the client who purchased them and cannot be transferred to another client.

No. Packages cannot be shared. They can only be used by the client who purchased them.

Packages can be upgraded if they have not yet been used, but they cannot be changed once you have started using them. If you'd like to discuss upgrading, please speak to a member of our team in salon.
